Moving House in Summer: Beat the Heat and the Busy Season
Summer is the busiest time of year for house moves. Here's how to plan ahead, beat the rush, and stay comfortable on move day.
Book as Early as Possible
July and August are by far the busiest months for removal companies. If you know you're moving in summer, book your removal company as soon as your date is confirmed — ideally 6–8 weeks in advance.
Start Early on Move Day
An early morning start (7–8am) means the hardest physical work is done before the afternoon heat. This is better for the team and for your fragile items — heat affects electronics, candles, and cosmetics.
Keep Everyone Hydrated
Moving is intense physical work, especially in heat. Have cold water, sports drinks, and sunscreen available for your removal team. They'll appreciate it and it keeps everyone performing at their best.
Protect Heat-Sensitive Items
Candles will melt, vinyl records can warp, chocolate and cosmetics can degrade. Keep these items in your air-conditioned car rather than the van, particularly for longer journeys.
School Holiday Timing
School holiday moves mean school-holiday prices and availability challenges. If you can move in the first or last week of July/September rather than peak school holidays, you may find better availability and lower prices.
Children's Summer Activities
If you have children, summer moves are actually easier in one way — they can be occupied with activities while the move happens. Consider booking them into a holiday club or activity camp on move day for a cleaner, calmer experience.
