How Long Does a House Move Take? A Realistic Guide

Wondering how long your house move will take? Here's an honest, experience-based guide to realistic removal timeframes.

The Big Variables

Move duration depends on: the volume of belongings, number of staff, distance between properties, floors involved (no lift adds significant time), parking and access conditions, and how well items are packed and ready.

Rough Timeframes by Home Size

Studio/1-bed flat: 2–4 hours. 2-bed flat/house: 4–6 hours. 3-bed house: 5–8 hours. 4-bed house: 7–10 hours. 5+ bed house: 8–12 hours+. These assume professional packing is done in advance.

What Slows a Move Down

The top time-wasters: items not packed when the team arrives, difficult parking requiring multiple trips, items in loft that haven't been brought down, stairs without a lift, and last-minute decisions about what to take.

What Speeds a Move Up

Being fully packed and ready when the team arrives, clear labelling of boxes by room, clear access for the van as close to the door as possible, and having a floor plan ready for the new property.

The Buffer

Always allow at least 2 hours of buffer on both ends of your day for delays. Completion isn't instant — keys can take hours to arrive after the solicitor calls. Having breathing room prevents a stressful rush.

Our Promise

We'll always give you a realistic time estimate before the move and keep you updated on the day. Moving is our job — we know how to do it efficiently without rushing and damaging your belongings.
