House Clearance Guide: What to Expect and How to Prepare
Need a house clearance? Here's everything you need to know about the process — from booking to completion.
What Is a House Clearance?
A house clearance is the complete removal of all contents from a property. This includes furniture, clothing, kitchen contents, stored items, garden equipment — everything. It's a distinct service from a house removal, where you choose what you want taken to a new address.
When Are House Clearances Needed?
The most common situations are probate (clearing a deceased family member's home), end of tenancy (landlord or tenant), downsizing where furniture won't fit the new property, and properties being prepared for sale or renovation.
Sensitive Clearances
Bereavement clearances are the most common type we carry out. We handle them with complete sensitivity and respect. There's no rush — we work at the pace that's right for you, and we treat every item with care until it leaves the property.
What Happens to the Contents?
We prioritise donation to local Hampshire charities and hospice shops. Items that can be recycled are taken to proper recycling facilities. Only items that genuinely cannot be donated or recycled go to disposal. We aim to keep as much out of landfill as possible.
How Is It Priced?
House clearances are priced based on the volume of contents and the time required. We always do a free assessment before providing a quote. Some clearances — where valuables like antiques are included — can even be offset against the cost of the clearance.
How to Prepare
Remove any items you want to keep before our team arrives, or clearly mark them (coloured stickers work well). Ensure we have full access to all rooms, outbuildings, and loft spaces. That's it — we take care of everything else.
