Hampshire operates a partly selective system with grammar schools in some areas alongside comprehensive schools. The two systems operate in different parts of the county, so where you live significantly affects your options.
Grammar Schools in Hampshire
Hampshire's grammar schools include Peter Symonds in Winchester, Perins School in Alresford, Thornden in Chandler's Ford area, and several in Basingstoke. Entry is via the 11+ test, taken in Year 6.

Independent Schools

Application Timing and Process
State school applications for Reception places open in November for the following September. Year 7 secondary applications open in September. In-year transfers (moving during the school year) are handled directly by the school or the LA.
